Update on Leeds Visitor Services
Please note we do not produce archives between 12 noon and 2pm
In January 2008 we commenced a series of projects to improve the services provided at WYAS, Leeds:
- With the aim of reducing waiting lists we introduced more seating spaces for users of original documents:
- We are pleased to report that this has been successful and has eliminated the 3-week waiting period for a searchroom seat which previously existed.
- With the aim of locating collections more speedily for our users we have been working on improving our collections information:
- We are pleased to report that this project has already proved very beneficial and staff are able to locate records more speedily.
- Due to unavoidable staff shortages we have been unable to complete this project in 18 months as we originally planned.
- We will therefore continue to work on collections for a further 5 months until December 2009.
- In order to achieve a dedicated block of time for staff to work on this project we will continue to close to the public for the first full week of every month.

During this period the increase of the number of days we open from 3 to 4 days per week will maintain our public opening hours. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the closure weeks, but we hope that you will understand that this work is essential for us to improve our collections and locations information, which will enable us to provide an improved service to our users.
