West Yorkshire Archives Service: Work experience placements
Work experience placements at WYAS archive offices are generally restricted to graduates considering studying for a Diploma in Archives Administration. This is due to the high level of demand for work placements.
Before being accepted on a work placement prospective candidates are asked to arrange a meeting with a WYAS archivist to find out more about the archives profession. At the meeting the candidate will be given a brief introduction to archive work and a tour around the WYAS office they are attending. For details of the locations of our offices please click here
Work placement students are usually based at WYAS, Wakefield where a wide range of archival work can included in the training programme. Work areas likely to be covered include shadowing in the archive search room, dealing with enquiries in the West Riding Registry of Deeds, listing collections and a visit to the conservation department.
The work experience placements usually last for two weeks.
