Group Visits
WYAS offers group visits to groups in the West Yorkshire area. We aim to introduce new users to the service and allow them to have an induction into the archive service. They also allow societies, organisations and groups to attend the service as a whole and gain a better understanding of how the archive service works and some of the collections that are held.
If you are an educational group from primary to adult learning please visit the Education pages.
We offer three types of visit;
Introduction to the Archive
This visit lasts up to 1hour 30mins, depending on the office and numbers and consists of:
- An introduction to WYAS
- An introduction to visiting archives, and online catalogues.
- An introduction and look round the search room areas at the office where the visit takes place.
- The chance to view selected archives. These archives will be selected by an archivist based on the nature and geographical location of the group.
This tour is open to first time visitors and new members of societies only.
Standard Visit
This visit can last between 1 and 2 hours (depending on the office hosting the visit) and will include:
- An introduction to WYAS
- A chance to view specially selected archives; the choice of archives will be made by the senior archivist in conjunction with the group leader.
- This visit may include a behind the scenes tour (this is not possible at all offices)
Specialised Visit
This visit is tailored to individual groups and requires a higher amount of specialised staff time and support. The idea of this visit is to cater for groups and organisations who would like to visit the archive to look at a large number of documents or to look at something very specific or would like to visit for a longer amount of time.
To book a visit download a booking form and return it to the appropriate office by email or post; or call the office you would like to visit. For contact details of the offices please click here
Charges are levied for this service, however charges may be waived for new users from voluntary and community service organisations. Please contact the Education and Outreach Manager to discuss this possibility.
It is not possible for WYAS to guarantee that all requests from organisations can be delivered, so we have developed criteria for deciding which requests to prioritise. To view this policy please visit the Policy and Strategy Documents in the 'About Us' section. Priority will be give to new users.
